The 16th China-Japan Joint Conference on Geography October 11-14, 2024

 https://cjk2024.casconf.cn/

October 11-14, 2024 in Hunchun City, China.

Over the past decades, this regional annual conference has been a great success gathering geographers from the three countries and beyond. The 16th China-Japan-Korea Joint Conference on Geography will be hosted by Yanbian University (YBU) at Hunchun Campus. Hunchun is a border city located in the southeast of Jilin Province. With a large natural habitat and rich biodiversity, serving as an important intersection of "Silk Road" and "Silk Road on Ice", Hunchun becomes now an important city of diversified cultures, harmonious, stable and sustainable development in Northeast Asia.

The main theme of the conference is “Regional Cooperation and Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia”. With continuous advancement of globalization, ongoing cross-border trade, population mobility and economic development among Northeast Asian countries, the region has entered a new stage of sustainable development. International cooperation and sustainable development are of great significance for improving human health and well-being, as well as international position and influence of the region.

In the beautiful autumn, the conference will bring together participants to share thoughts on the latest research achievements of geography. There will be many brilliant scholars to join the discussion, to shed light on the related topics from different and new perspectives. Parallel sessions and social events will also be organized during the conference, followed by optional field trips to Changbai Mountain and Tumen River (border areas China-Russia-DPRK). We hope the conference will provide an excellent platform to participants to foster understanding, exchange ideas, build friendship and establish collaborations.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hunchun in October!

Sincerely,

Organizing Committee of the 16th CJK Joint Conference on Geography

Mobilizing interdisciplinary science for a more sustainable and resilient world

The Frontiers Planet Prize, endorsed by the International Science Council, announced its 2024 international champions. The three winning scientists were each awarded $1.1 million (USD) to support their research aimed at saving the planet.

The Frontiers Planet Prize recognizes and rewards scientists whose groundbreaking research accelerates solutions to help humanity remain safely within the nine planetary boundaries.

In its second edition, the Prize honored the contributions of three scientists:

  • Dr. Pedro Jaureguiberry from the Multidisciplinary Institute of Plant Biology in Argentina, whose research addresses the drivers of global anthropogenic biodiversity loss;
  • Prof. Dr. Peter Haase from the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research in Germany, who highlights the vital importance of preserving freshwater ecosystems with legislative action;
  • Prof. Jason Rohr from the University of Notre Dame in the USA, who demonstrates how community-driven agricultural practices can reduce the prevalence of schistosomiasis, a disease affecting hundreds of millions globally.
