I am so excited to inform you that the First Asian Conference on Geography
(ACG) will be held in Shanghai, China on October 9 through 12, 2015. On
behalf of the organizing committee, I am honored to invite you to attend the
conference. ACG is aimed to provide a platform specifically for Asian
geographers to communicate, exchange, and collaborate with respect to
virtually any geospatially related issues. After entering the 21st century,
Asia as a whole has been rising as an important region in the world with
remarkable economic growth and social and cultural development. On the other
hand, the internal variations of resources, population, and socioeconomic
development and cultural diversity are the norm to this ancient continent.
As geographers in Asia, it is time for us to work together, address our own
issues, and make best use of our disciplinary trainings to contribute to the
commonwealth of Asia. Therefore, your presence at the Conference is highly
important, as we may sit together and discuss our concerns and visions for
ACG’s future development.
October is a golden month in Shanghai, the best time of the year for
celebration and social gala. Please come and join us to witness the
historical moment of ACG inauguration and experience the urban and cultural
geographies of one of the biggest metropolises in the world. We are awaiting
with our arms open and looking forward to seeing you in the Conference.

* 5. International Response to the Earthquake in Nepal
+----------------------------------------------------------------+
The devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25 and the
major aftershock on May 12 have caused significant damages to wide areas in
Nepal and its neighboring countries. International actors have supported the
response to the disaster. An APRSAF initiative, Sentinel Asia, conducted
emergency observations over the affected areas and provided space-based
information that has been utilized to mitigate further damages.
