[ISC] ISC Asia and Pacific newsletter June 2024

Message from the Director

Welcome to the latest edition of news from the International Science Council’s Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Pacific Academy of Sciences will be an official side-event at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October, more details to come!

I encourage our Members and affiliates to view the latest online Members meeting. It was particularly interesting to hear there has been an overwhelming response to the ISC call for Science Missions for Sustainability with 250 expressions of interest, including 42 from our region. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to matchmaking events with funders starting in September. We look forward to the launch of the successful pilots at the ISC General Assembly in Oman in January next year.

We are also pleased to announce that we are preparing to launch the first round of our Asia-Pacific Academic Mentoring Program with students and early career researchers from the Pacific.

Recently, we had strong regional representation with our delegations to the recent INGSA 2024 and SIDS4 Conferences.

Looking ahead, we are working with the New Zealand Science Media Centre to provide communication workshops to media and scientists at the Pacific Media Conference in Fiji next week and we will soon kick off our Asia mission science program with some codesign workshops in collaboration with our colleagues at Future Earth Asia.
